January 16th, 2012

Back to work today.  First day of a 48 hour shift.  Fortunately it's been a quiet day so far.  Hopefully it will stay that way.  I didn't get much sleep last night.  I don't sleep well in general, but last night I stayed up until 3am reading.  I had no idea it was that late until Allen woke up and said something.  It took everything to drag my butt out of bed this morning!

Luckily we've been able to relax a bit today.  I've laid around and read my kindle, finally finished the book I was reading last night.  I get so wrapped up in a good book that it's so difficult to put it down.  Since there really isn't much to write about for today, I'll get to my Act of Kindness.

Today's Act of Kindness:  I bought breakfast for my partner today.  I've known him and been friends with him for several years.. probably close to ten years now.  I just love him and his family to pieces.  I enjoy getting to be partners with him.  He's not my usual partner.  They trade frequently though because she is in nursing school right now.  Luckily when she has to trade I still get wonderful partners!

5 Things I am Grateful For:
1. Quiet days at work.  As I've always said, 'A bad day for us, means a worse day for someone else.'
2. Storms.  I LOVE a good storm.  A few minutes ago, my partner was standing at the door and said, "here
comes the rain."  and you could hear the rain start to pour down.  I love it!  He wasn't too impressed
when he saw lightening.  We have a HUGE radio tower just out our back door.   But I can sit here and
listen to the thunder as I write.  <sigh>
3. Chocolate cookies and brownies.  These are my sweet tooth weaknesses.  Maxine's in Evansville
makes bourbon brownies that are OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS!   If I have any in the house, I
can hear them calling my name even in my sleep, lol.
4. Winter.  I love winter.  It's so much better than summer.  I cannot handle the summer heat, but I can pile
on the clothes and enjoy every minute of winter!  My only concern is that we don't get any snow
anymore.  I took a government survey yesterday and one of the questions was whether I believed global
warming was a true issue.  YES it is people!  One, the poor polar bears are suffering from the effects
already.  That's reason enough alone to do something about it.  However, from a personal viewpoint,
when I was a little girl we had snow, I mean REAL snow.  Closing school, drifting the roads closed, buy
up supplies, snow!  Now you get a 'dusting' of snow at best.  I miss the real snows.  I miss snow cream.
[which my son swears is gross since it came from outside, lol, too bad, all the more for me!   lol]
5. A good mattress.  I LOVE my bed at home.  Allen hates his half of it, but my half is perfect!!  lol.  Since
I sleep at work two nights a week, in a bed that's not my own, I can REALLY appreciate how much I
love my bed.  Our mattress is a pillow top mattress, but since I know our budget, I'm sure it wasn't some
high priced OMG mattress, lol.   But it is perfect in my opinion.  I'm always happy to get to sleep in my
    own bed at night.

Ok.. going to wrap this up and hit this work mattress.  It's not MY mattress, but it'll do for tonight, lol.  Snuggle up w/my kindle and read while I listen to the storm brewing outside... ahhhh PERFECT!
